CollegeFencing360.com is excited to introduce individual rankings for collegiate fencing – a helpful addition that is similar to what is available for individual competitors in other college sports (such as golf, tennis, swimming & diving, and track & field)..
PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE RANKINGS ARE DIFFERENT FROM CRITERIA USED TO DETERMINE NCAA QUALIFERS (also, teams can qualify a max. of two fencers per weapon for the NCAA Championship)
Here's a quick look at the elements involved in creating these CF360 rankings (UPDATED prior to NCAA Champ.):
• Performance during 2011-12 college team dual meets (including quality of opponents); results vs. non-varsity teams are not included in the calculation
• Past performance at NCAA Championships and Regional tournaments
• Results from 2011-12 college fencing events that do not fall under the dual-meet format, including: the Penn State Open and the Temple Open (both held in the fall) ... the U.S. Squad Championships (relay format; held at NYU) ...
the Midwest Fencing Conference (MFC) Championships ... and the Northeast Intercollegiate Fencing Association (NEIFC) Fall Invitational, along with the recent NEIFC Championships
• Finish at 2012 NCAA Regional competition
NCAA selection criteria factors in Regional finish as 60% but the CF360 rankings place more focus on the season as a while, rather than one day (Regional finish still is 25% of the CF360 rankings).
